Hmm. Great topic and post. My mission (not giving it a thought) is rather selfish. When I kick the bucket, at least a handful should say, 'he was a good bloke who lived his life for others'. Now that it sounds corny, let me re-think. Maybe my mission is to do all that I can so that my family leads a happy life. Needs a re-think. Will be back.

Hi Rahul.

Basically, the mission of my life is to travel ever forward, ever upward, in an upright position - head held high, chin up, shoulders square - taking in all that there is to perceive, interpret, experience, and appreciate, - and if I'm lucky I'll meet a few people along the way, travelling in the same direction, on their own steam, and we stop only to help those who struggle valiantly to achieve the same journey - not the whiners who won't try, but the brave who do.

interesting ones but imho most of them qualify more to be a vision than a mission. mission, technically, would relate to action items while vision is the 'dream' that one wants to live for. but even then vision has to be definable and achievable. i mean 'being happy' can be a vision but one needs to qualify it further to explain what all 'being happy' means because it means many things to many people and many things to even the same individual in different circumstances and points of life.

similary 'learn and help' is a vision indeed but need to be qualified further because it is still very generic. technically everyone wants to learn and help, in fact a huge number of people do it every day. so that sounds more like a 'core value' rather than a vision statement

I do not believe in missions. They limit me. They are rooted in preconceptions and personal biases. And they may not always be broadly shared ideals.

I would rather allow every event, every new person I meet and every situation to enrich and expand my experience of life.

So, loosely speaking, my mission is to keep learning from life and to keep rotating the kaleidoscope to see new things.

I don't HAVE to like what I see; nor does the world have to agree with how I see it.

Let me explain a little further
A community is a social group, small or large, in which individuals share the idea that, up to a point, common good comes before individual good.
And they believe that taking care of the community will benefit all community members.

A healthy community is integrated by well developed individuals, who are able to work as teams.

That's not something you do, that is a way to live by.
And although you don't do it for money, you need resources to push ahead, and you have to charge someone to get them.

Rahul, there comes a time in everyone's life when this question pops up and leaves one flabbergasted. Dont worry, its happened to me too. ANd the only answer I could come up with after much deliberation is, the only worthwhile mission in life is to be happy & regret-free at the point of death. And its all in your mind. You can be a complete boring saint and die regretting bitterly that you didnt have fun. In which case you are an idiot! Sorry if this is too morbid for you.

Rahul, maybe there comes a point in everybody's life when this question pops into his/her head. I've had this thought several times. And my conclusion after much thought is this: I think the only worthwhile mission possible is to be happy, comfortable & regret-free at the point of death. And its all in the mind! If you've been a merry sinner all your life and still manage a happy death, lucky bugger! If you've been a boring saint and regret not having had any fun, you've been a complete idiot! Sorry if I have been too morbid in this...
